Ways To Quickly Compare Website With Competitors
3 Ways To Quickly Compare Website With Competitors: -
To be number one in the SERPs, start with these 3 quick ways to do competitor analysis, along with SEO tool recommendations.
As the challenges and obstacles to reaching and staying at the top of the SERPs have continued to grow, a competitor analysis has become more important than ever.
While Google's guidelines for webmasters haven't changed much over the years, the basic algorithm has certainly changed.
The evolution of this algorithm is taking place at a much faster pace.
The introduction of Knowledge Graph, Hummingbird, RankBrain, and BERT into Google's algorithm has made it much harder for SEO pros to play the system.
At the most basic level, a website can be divided into three components:
Technology
Content
Backlinks
Here are three ways to compare the site to the competition to see where one could improve the SEO.
1. Evaluate competitor's website technology:
The goal of every webmaster is a well structured, fast, easy to use, and easy to navigate website.
My favorite resource for this is BuiltWith.
They provide a series of technology profiles, including information on:
Analysis and follow-up.
Widgets.
E-commerce.
Frames.
CDN.
Cartography.
Mobile.
Payment.
A / V media.
CMS.
JS libraries and functions.
The advertisement.
Verified links.
SSL certificates.
Web hosting providers.
Name servers.
Email hosting providers.
Web servers.
Operating systems and servers.
Syndication techniques.
Webmaster registration.
Website Architecture
Understanding the architecture of a competitor's website can be helpful in establishing the hierarchy of parent and child pages, as well as uncovering a potential product or content gap.
The best and easiest way to determine this is to create a competitor analysis sitemap.
Google goes beyond simple page speed as a ranking factor.
Core Web Vitals will become a ranking factor.
This initiative provides unified guidance on quality signals that is essential for all sites to deliver a great user experience on the web.
2. Perform competitor analysis on website content:
Organic keyword research
Developing the right list of keywords is always important.
Chances are, the competition has already invested a lot of time in developing an amazing keyword strategy.
My tool of choice for competitive organic keyword research is Ahrefs.
They have a large database of search rankings per website.
They also make it easy to determine which phrases are driving traffic and their ranking potential.
Besides listing keywords and rankings, they also list top pages.
They include the number of keywords that a particular page ranks for as well as a list of those phrases:
It's quite common to find a single page, like the ones above, ranking for hundreds (if not thousands) of related keywords.
It can be much more effective to focus on creating a better version of a top-performing page than it can be to focus on a single keyword or phrase.
It's a great way to find both highly relevant keyword opportunities and potentially new business opportunities.
On-page optimization:
Google may not be as dependent on meta tags since the introduction of the Knowledge Graph, but having a clear roadmap for users and search engines is still important.
This tool produces a comparison of:
Title of the page.
Meta description tag.
Keywords (good for the intelligence of competitors, not so much for SEO).
A number of texts and words.
Main two and three-word keyword phrases.
The most efficient way to use this tool is to search for patterns.
Each title tag leads with the brand and includes SEO and search marketing mentions in at least two of the three pages with optimized title tags.
3. Analyze competitors' backlinks:
There was a time when SEO professionals searched for every backlink from a competitor, in order to neutralize the advantage that link could offer.
Everything changed with the introduction of Penguin.
Links that had a zero value suddenly had a negative value.
All of those unnecessary links gained through indiscriminate backlink extraction have become dangerous in a link profile.
Ahrefs Link Intersect tool to be very efficient in extracting competing links.
The tool offers two different filtering options:
Show that links to all targets.
Shows which links to one of the targets.
Content and links will continue to be the backbone of Google's algorithm for some time.
Understanding what clashes and neutralizing any competitive advantage is an important step when developing an effective marketing campaign.
