Google announces a new "page experience" ranking algorithm for 2021.
The new ranking algorithm emphasizes a good user experience. If the user experience isn't good, websites won't rank as high as they do today.
The page experience algorithm tries to understand how website visitors perceive a web page: how fast it loads, how well the page is displayed on mobile phones, how ads are displayed on the page, etc.
The new page experience algorithm uses existing Google ranking factors.
For example, page speed update, mobile-friendly update, interstitial update, and HTTPS update are part of the new algorithm.
Google will refine the metrics that deal with usability and speed.
Good content will always be the most important ranking factor:
“While all components of the page experience are important, we will prioritize the pages with the best information overall, even if there are some aspects of the page experience that are below average.
A good page experience is not a substitute for relevant, quality content.
However, in cases where multiple pages have similar content, the page experience becomes much more important for search visibility. "
